Well hello there LJ it's been a minute. I've been sort of busy with work, and family. I've had a lot of birthdays come up this month include the birthdays of my niece, my sister, and my sister that passed away when I was 16. My sister Dorletta had a difficult time on her birthday being that it was so close to that my of my deceased sister. She got through it, and she managed to enjoy her birthday. I text-ed my niece this morning and told her happy birthday. My mom asked me if I wanted to visit my other sister's grave, but I told her I didn't really want to. It's always been hard for me to think about her death, and whenever I visit her grave it's a cruel reminder that she's not here. But I'm not going to get all gloomy in this post so I'll talk about other things.
I've been listening to lots of different music, and lately I've been feeling like my music taste has sort of come full circle. I say that because I've been listening to post-hardcore music again, and a few bands that I used to listen to back in the day. I've also been listening to some doom metal, and melodic death metal. I've always been more of a punk enthusiast, but lately I've been getting into to more extreme metal. I've also been listening to older music in general like The Smiths, The Cure, The Sisters of Mercy, Blue Oyster Cult, old Ministry, The Stalin, and other stuff. I've been trying to gain an appreciation for 50's/60's jazz music as well. I'm trying to broaden my horizon's so to speak.
I do find myself being creative, and drawing again. When I first finished art school I didn't want to pick up a pencil for a while. Art school sort of drains your creativity in a way, because the teacher's make all these demands of what your art should be when in reality it's YOUR ART. I felt stifled creatively while I was in school. But now I find myself drawing, and painting more and it feels good. It's a good feeling to love doing this again.
I haven't been keeping up with k-pop lately, but I will say that I haven't been too impressed with most of the current releases included that of my bias. Kim Hyun Joong released a mini album recently and I just thought that the title track was really uninspired, boring, and not good at all. Also is he a stalker in the video or is it just me? lol. Anyway, I really like the first song on the mini, but I don't find the other songs appealing at all. I think I'm officially growing out of this whole K-pop thing. I'm not for sure, and I still enjoy Korean music, but K-pop isn't something that I've really loved in a while. It probably has to do with my drastic change in music taste as well.
I will mention that a favorite band of mine is releasing an album in a few months, and they posted the video for their new song. I really enjoy it! I had mixed feelings at first because the intro was a bit misleading, but after hearing the whole song I have to say I really like it. It's better than anything they've done in a while. I didn't really care for their last album so I hope this one is an improvement. Anyway here's the new Interpol song "All The Rage Back Home."
