Yesterday I practice my guitar off and on for most of the day.  It felt good to just practice for a while because I haven't been practicing like I should.  At this point I've learned how to play most of the songs off Interpol's "Turn on the Bright Lights."  I think the fact that it's one of my favorite post-punk albums really helps.  I also bought a capo not too long ago so I could learn a few songs by The Smiths, and not have to tune my guitar up an octave.  Already knowing how to play bass guitar really helps when learning guitar as far as figuring out finger shapes, and chord structures to songs.  Anyway I don't want to bore you all with music theory stuff.

I finally listened to Beyonce's "Lemonade" album, and I think it's alright.  I've come to expect certain types of themes in her music so she didn't surprise me on that front.  I think she has a lot of issues she needs to sort out.  Musically I think it sounded good.  I've always had an issue with the fact that for someone so revered she has a ton of songwriting credits.  I think the credit for the music should go to those people not her.  I've also heard she steals a lot of ideas from other artists.  That's something that I don't like at all.  But that aside I thought the album was an improvement from her last self titled album.

On another note I listen to the 2 new songs by Lacuna Coil: "The House of Shame", and "Delirium", and they fucking blew me away!  I haven't heard anything this good from them since Comalies.  I feel like this is the band I feel in love with many years ago.  Cristina Scabbia's vocals on the chorus of both songs are fantastic.  Andrea's screaming has also improved a lot.  The music kind of reminds me of a cross between Epica, and Fear Factory which is pretty great.  Anyway here is the lyric video for "The House of Shame", and the title track "Delirium".  I will be preordering the album bundle for this album.  It sounds like it will be their best one in years.  Also I'll let it be known that I have a huge crush on Cristina Scabbia, and meeting her at one of their concerts didn't help XD!  Read more... )

I'll just post a few updates of things that have been going on.
  • I'm sure everyone has heard about the passing of Prince last week.  I was really shocked, as I had no idea he was sick.  I think it took most people by surprise.  I read a few posts from celebrities talking about it, and I'm glad that he was respected throughout the music world.  I grew up on his music.  My dad loves Prince, and listens to him all the time.  His music was always playing around our household so I think his death really did affect me more than Bowie's.  I do love both musicians, but I guess growing up on his music it's just weird that he's not around anymore.
  • I've been having issues with my right hand lately (the hand that mom accidentally slammed in the front door.)  Yesterday was the first day that it didn't really hurt, or bother me.  I might have to get it checked out, but I'm not a fan of going to the doctor.  It feels a lot better today than it has in a while.
  • I'm currently obsessed with the anime "Haikyuu!!".  The characters are hilarious especially Ryunosuke Tanaka, and the main character Shoyo Hinata.  I actually ordered a figure of Tobio Kageyama recently, and I can't wait to get it.
  • I watched that Beyonce "Lemonade" video yesterday, and I don't know what to think of it to be honest.  Jay-Z seems like a POS, and she should probably divorce him, but I doubt she will.  I downloaded the album this morning so I still have to give the music a listen.  I like to take in albums with good headphones, and audio to get a feel for the music.
  • After revisiting the video maybe the person on facebook meant southern gothic?  If so then I take back what I said.  I can see how someone would see it like that.  It does have that visual aesthetic going on.
  • I watched the new "X-Men Apocalypse" trailer, and it actually makes me want to see the film.  I wasn't too keen on the earlier trailers, but this one is pretty good.  As an avid X-Men fan I've often times ended up biting the bullet and going to see the films despite not being sold on many of the plots in the last few X-Men Films.  So that means I'll probably go see this one.
  • My friend and I are making plans to go to A-kon this year cause of my new found love of collecting anime figures, among other things.  I also just realized I requested the wrong day to be off work so I'm going to have to go to my supervisor and try to change the date *sigh*.
