The whole thing started about 3 or 4 days ago when I noticed that I woke up with a sore throat.  That was not fun at all, and I couldn't figure out what was going on since I wasn't coughing, or sneezing the first day.  The second day the coughing started, and I began taking cold meds to alleviate the pain, and overall discomfort that comes with being sick.  I drank some tea for cold, and flu the same night I noticed my sore throat, and despite how great it tasted (apple/cinnamon flavored) it didn't do a damn thing for my sore throat.  Needless to say my dad stopped by the store and picked up some tea that was a bit stronger, and tasted horrible.  I didn't care as long as it made me better.  Now a few days later here I am with a full blown cold sniffling, coughing, and all that horribleness.  So this morning I called in sick for work, and figured I would try to rest today.  I figured it wasn't the flu cause I'm not having body aches.  I just feel an overall stuffiness in my head, throat, and chest area.  My coworker commented that she knew someone who had similar issues and she ended up having walking pneumonia which sort of scared me a bit.  My mom mentioned that if I had that then I would definitely know it, and told me not to worry.

Aside from being sick I ordered the new Deftones album "Gore" yesterday from best buy.  I think it's kind of sad that there's really no where to buy new CD's anymore like in the past when there were record stores, and what not.  Those days are long gone, and it makes me very sad.  There are  few places I can pick up CDs like department stores, but it's just not the same.  I remember meeting really interesting people, and having long conversations about music in record stores in the 90's.

I'm going to catch up on commenting on people's entries.  I haven't been the most active person on any of my journal platforms.  I've been sick off and on for a few weeks, and I haven't really been commenting on peoples entries like I should be.  I will improve with that I promise.

Last week it snowed almost every day. It's crazy for Texas weather, but the weather here is also very unpredictable. I would have taken pictures, but I never got around to it. When I went outside to get the mail one day I almost slipped and fell...lol. I'm a very clumsy person, but I've gotten less so over the years.

This morning around 3 am it started snowing. We got around 3 inches of snow in my city, and in some parts they got 6 inches. That's quite a bit of snow for Texas weather considering the last few winters weren't really winter. Since I had to be at work at 6 am this morning, and the roads were terrible I decided to stay in, and enjoy the day off.

Well let's see what's been going on with me.  I got sick Monday while I was trying to watch a new episode of Sleepy Hollow. :(  For that reason I ended up missing the end of the show.  Luckily, I was able to catch it again on demand last night.  I've been feeling sort of crappy since then.  Today is the first day that I actually feel okay.  Tuesday I ended up sleeping most of the day.

A band I used to like years ago called Finch released a new album this week.  I really haven't gotten the chance to listen to it due to me having a headache for the past 2 days, but I'm going to make it a point to listen to it.  I've liked these guys since their first album "What it is to burn", and I even have their band shirt to prove it.  Looking at a lot of my old band tees I realized I really do listen to a lot of music.  Maybe I'll post pictures of them when I get the chance.  I also need to post pictures of my room.  I mostly have band posters up, but one of them is really awesome cause it's autographed.  I'm also kind of a neat freak.  My cousin came into my room a few days ago and she was like "Ashley, you're room is too neat."  and I was like "Yeah, what can I say?  I don't like clutter everywhere."  She kind of went whatever and walked out...lol.  She's the complete opposite of me so she's very messy.  Not to mention she has 3 kids so that makes the messiness even more-so lol.
I found out Nightwish is coming to my city in 2015 around May.  I want to try to go since they have Delain opening for them whom I also really like.  I've been trying to figure out how to convince my friend to go since she always bails on me.  I've been using the guilt trip method lately because she promised me she would be a better friend after not being able to go to Akon this year.

As for other things I've been reading a lot lately.  I started reading Morrissey's autobiography recently, and it's really interesting.  Honestly I'm not too fond of him as a person, but I really like The Smiths so it was interesting to hear about what happened with them from his perspective.  I also read a book called "That Freak Kid" which ended up being pretty good.  I thought the plot was really better than I expected, and most of the characters had a lot of depth.  I hated that guy Devin though, he was such an asshole...lol.  I thought some parts of it were cliche especially about Jack being a somewhat stereotypical goth kid.  Although the music he liked wasn't really goth music tbh, but what can you do?  Apparently the guy was obsessed with Marilyn Manson.  :/  Manson isn't really gothic music, more-like industrial metal but I digress.  A lot of goths like him, but he's definitely not what I would consider him the type of music most goths listen to, but then again we're not all the same.  Many goths just like his aesthetic mostly.  I think that stereotype started after the whole Columbine thing also.  Because according to society goths are usually "violent, angsty, dangerous, school shooters, etc."  and Manson's antics don't exactly help get rid of that stereotype.  I'd also like to point out that I tried to get into his music, because in high-school I had a lot of friends who were into him.  I never could though, even now.  I've always been more of Nine Inch Nails fan.

Last week was actually peaceful, and not too bad for a change.  I finally got the chance to check out Kim Hyun Joong’s new drama “Inspiring Age”, and I really enjoyed the first 2 episodes a lot!  The guy playing the younger Shin Jung Tae really does look just like Hyun Joong, down to his pissed off expression when he’s fighting.  They really outdid themselves by picking him for the role because he fits it perfectly.  I’m really looking forward to this week’s episode(s).

Speaking of shows I just watched the season finale for Sleepy Hollow and Oh My God!  I was not expecting it to end like that!  And I have to wait until the fall before it resumes the new season.  I don’t know what I’ll do with my Mondays now…lol.

I was browsing Netflix the other day and decided to watch the anime “Attack On Titan”, and boy do I regret it.  To say it was disturbing is putting it lightly.  I couldn't make it through episode 2 due to people being eaten by giant ‘Titans’ and what not.  The plot was a little too disturbing even for me, and I can usually take disturbing things.

I bought these jeans that have one leg red, and the other black and I wore them to work the other day.  Needless to say I got a lot of attention.  One guy literally did a 360 as he watched me walk past him…lol.  Despite how I dress sometimes I’m still not used to a lot of attention.  I think it’s safe to say that I don’t like attention.  On a side note I will say that whatever I do though I do it for myself, and not for anyone else.  I dress the way I do because it makes me happy.  I've decided that it’s ridiculous to depend on others for my happiness.  In fact I’ve decided that I will not depend on others for my happiness.  I need to think about making myself happy.  I can afford to be selfish at this point in my life.

As for music I’ve been trying to get into some newer hardcore bands.  Anyone that knows me personally knows that when I was a teenager up until my early twenties I used to listen to a ton of hardcore music.  You could say that’s how I got into post-punk music actually since hardcore is a form of punk.  These days I do still prefer post-punk to hardcore due to my love for rumbling bass-lines, and apathetic singing styles as opposed to screaming, and fast driven songs that hardcore brings to the table.  The bands I've been listening to are: Oceana, La Dispute, Balance And Composure, Touche Amore, Thrice, Embrace, Crossfaith, and Defeater.  As for some other bands/artists that aren't necessarily hardcore I’ve been listening to I’ve been listening to Within Temptation (their new album is awesome!!!), Swans, Warpaint, Christian Death, Coil, Husker Du, SuiseiNoboAz, Galileo Galilei, Pity Sex, and Little Nemo to name a few.

So this is my first post on dreamwidth, yay!

I spent most of the evening yesterday watching episode 4 of Sleepy Hollow.  I need to watch the first 2 episodes since I started at episode 3.  I will say one of the many great things about this show is you can start from a any episode and not be totally confused because it's a new situation for each episode.  Read more... )
