So I got a call from my doctor today while I was on break at work, and we discussed how my blood pressure was doing lately.  She decided it would be best to put me on a small dose of blood pressure medicine.  It's only about 25mg I believe so that's not to bad.  Plus she told me to break it in half for the first 2 weeks just to see how I react to it.  She mentioned that she felt like it was hereditary since I'm not overweight, and I've been eating relatively healthy lately.

I had some other things happen this week.  It  was some person being stupid, and harassing my mom on her cell phone.  My dad ended up calling the phone company and having both their numbers changed since the person kept harassing my mom, and constantly texting her.  It was crazy, but we finally got it fixed.  To be honest my dad thinks this woman he used to work with is stalking him.  That's the person that was sending my mom text messages.  I'll go into what happened in my next post.  It gives me such a migraine just thinking about it....ugh.

As for fandom things I bought a copy of X-Men Apocalypse so my mom could see it, and because I'm actually a die-hard fan of the comics.  I did enjoy the last 3 movies more-so than the first 3.  I hated the plot to the first 3 X-Men movies because they changed so much of the original story.  X-Men Apocalypse however ended up being pretty good.  I heard they're going to churn out another Wolverine movie which I'm sort of meh about.  I will admit that while I used to really like his character that's not really the case anymore.  My favorite characters are probably Storm, Nightcrawler, and Jean Grey if they would quit killing her off XD!

As far as anime goes I'm finally finished with Dragonball, and I really loved it.  I was amused to see Goku, and Chi Chi getting married, and everything.  I'm going to start DBZ from the beginning so we'll see how that goes.  Also [personal profile] rosemile I started watching one of the recs you gave me and Monthly Girls Nozaki-kun is really funny!  Thanks for the recs.  I still need to check out a few of the other shows you recommended.  I still need to catch up with Haikyuu as well since I'm almost done with season one.  Yeah I know I'm behind but I'll get there xD!  I'm behind on a lot of anime actually, but I'll catch up when I can.

Anyway all that aside I really like this song, and video.  I've been into this band for a little while, and I think they have a nice 90's midwestern emo vibe to them.   As for other music I've been listening to recently here's a screen shot from my iTunes recently added playlist.

Next Wednesday to be exact.  I'm sort of excited because my friend suggested we hang out and do stuff since our birthdays are in the same month.  Also I still have to get her a gift so I plan on doing it then.  I'm terrible at remembering dates especially birthdays.  Having people on facebook helps with that though.

I'm almost finished the with project I'm supposed to do for that guy, and it turned out really good.  I wasn't sure how it would turn out before I scanned the drawings in photoshop, but it turned out great.  I'll be glad to be finally done I with that project so I can do some artwork for myself.

I dyed the ends of my hair purple today.  My mom helped me, and it was a long process but it came out great.  Also the hair dye smells like grape so that was a nice surprise.

Last night I found this interesting video explaining the plot of Evangelion, and it makes a lot of sense.  Eva is one of those anime that isn't exactly easy to understand.  In fact me and my friend often make jokes referencing that.  So I found this youtube video with this guy explaining the entire plot in 7 minutes which is awesome.  The big ending for the End of Evangelion makes a lot of references to a philosopher named Hegel, and his theories about human consciousness.  It's pretty interesting, and I'm probably going to re-watch the series in proper order so I can make sense of everything.

I caved in and bought another anime box set today xD!  This time it's "Fate Stay Night" because I've been wanting to check it out for a while, and keep hearing it's pretty good.  It was only $5 on Rightstuff so I really couldn't turn it down.  I'm really glad that I've gotten back into things I used to like such as anime, shows, movies etc.  When I was going through a really bad depression at the end of last year I didn't enjoy doing anything.  I felt like a shell of a person.  It's good to feel like myself again.

Speaking of interesting anime stuff my friend told me about these videos where these blacksmiths recreate anime weapons as real functional weapons.  They made the Dragonslayer from Berserk, and they said it was one of the most difficult weapons they've created mainly because of the size.  I've always been interested in swords to be honest.  I really was when I first started taking karate classes when I was a young child.  I have a Japanese Samurai Katana that my parents helped me buy when I was younger.  I'll have to take pictures of it one day.

Now I'm going to go do some reading.

Well I think I can say I've fully recovered from that bad cold I had last week. I still feel a little bit weak every now, and then but I feel so much better other than that. Today was my first day back to work, and everything went okay.

Thanks to the recommendation from Krissasaur I started watching the anime "Boku dake ga inai machi" yesterday, and I'm almost finished with it. It's so good! I really love the plot, and most of the characters. I'm going to finish the last few episodes today. I watched it on Hulu but they had it as "Eraser" or something like that.  I'm curious about how they're going to solve everything.  I will find that out today when I finally finish it.

On a side note I've started collecting anime figurines. So far I only have a few, but I don't plan on going crazy with it. I already had a few older ones I bought years ago at Akon that ended up needing repairing. I fixed them and set them up on my shelf next to my bed. I took a few pics of the newer ones.  After researching figma collecting I'm starting to wonder what I've gotten myself into.  It's definitely an expensive hobby, but I'm not going to go too crazy with it.  I'm actually trying to save money this year.  We'll see how that goes...lol.

Hello to the new people I added from the LJ friending meme!  I mostly tend to just post about whatever is going on with me during that week so here we go.

I found out Monday that my grandfather is in the hospital on life support.  My mom mentioned previously that she felt like he would go downhill after my grandmother died, and that's what seems to be happening.  I really don't want to have to deal with another death in the family so I'm trying to stay optimistic.  It's really hard sometimes though.  To be honest I felt like my grandfather died years ago even though he's still here.  He has dementia, and he would sometimes not remember us, and it was really difficult.

Now for not so sad news I had a facebook video chat with my best friend on Monday night, and it was really fun!  We haven't seen each other since she moved away, and it was wonderful seeing her face again.  We did the video chat because she lost her cell phone, and we figured that would be a good way for us to keep in touch until she got a new one.  It was a really great feeling seeing her face again. :)

I've been keeping up with new X-Files episodes, and last weeks episode was so sad!  I won't give any spoilers in case someone else is watching it.  Also I finally watched the anime One Punch Man, and it was hilarious!  It's a series that I'll definitely continue watching.  I also watched this movie called "We Need to Talk About Kevin" based off of a book.  It was really good, and very sad.  Here's the plot if anyone is interested.  Well that's all for now.

I know the last post was very serious, and everything.  I haven't been really stressed out about any of my situations over the past few days.  I was a little anxious yesterday, but other than that I've been okay.  I finally talked to my friend, and she's supposed to come over today, and explain exactly why she's been m.i.a.  Since our friendship has been a bit rocky I'm not really getting my hopes up on her showing up.  If she shows up then that's great, if she doesn't then I don't really care.  I've been telling myself that it's not good to let one person dictate my happiness.  That's something I'm going to live by in 2016.

On a side note I bought a new game controller for my PS2.  My old 2nd controller died recently, and I finally replaced it.  As old as my PS2 is some of my favorite games are on that system so I do still play it from time to time.  I also bought a new game for the Wii (Super Mario Bros) that I'm hoping gets here while I'm on vacation.  I've also been getting caught up reading comics like Deadpool, Berserk, and a few others.  I've recently started checking out the comic selection for my Kindle Fire, and I've found that have a pretty good selection especially for Marvel comics.  I'll probably check out a few titles when I get paid at the end of the week.  Deadpool is a comic that I've always wanted to get into, but I've only started checking it out recently.  His back story is pretty interesting.

I've also been watching a few old Sailor Moon episodes on Hulu with Chromecast.  I need to catch up on a few other anime.  I was watching Blood C, but I have to say that it's kind of traumatic seeing many of the main characters friend's getting brutally murdered so I haven't watched that in a while.  It sort of gives the same vibe that Attack on Titan gave me when I started watching it.  :/

I've been continuing practicing guitar.  I'm progressing pretty well.  There are still some technical things that I want to master, but I'm getting there.  Any progress is good as far as I'm concerned.

Last week was pretty good.  I ended up going to my youngest cousin's 1st birthday party Sunday evening after work at peter piper pizza.  It ended up being a really nice party, and I had fun seeing the little munchkin enjoying her first birthday.  She ran around in a pink tutu until she tired herself out xD!

I was very pleased to hear about the ruling for marriage equality.  Living here in Texas I knew that our state politicians have been very reluctant to rule in favor of same-sex marriage.  I was so glad to hear that they finally did.  I was at work when I heard about it, and I heard a few people make some really homophobic comments.  It's a strange dynamic living in the south when people openly spew such hatred, and vitriol.  I've never understood that because I could never understand why you would treat anyone differently for any reason.  Anyway, I ended up having to delete a couple of family members on facebook for some of their bigoted views.  I have a zero tolerance rule when it comes to any sort of bigotry, racism, or any sort of isms really.

In other news I've been slightly regretting not going to Warped Tour after watching some videos of some of the bands performing.  The main bands I wanted to see were Citizen, Memphis Mayfire (local band woot!), We Came As Romans, August Burns Red, Being As An Ocean, and PVRIS.  So honestly not enough bands for me to warrant going to such an event.  I guess I'm just itching to go to a show this year since I went to 2 last year.

I've been meaning to watch a few anime titles I've added to my list on netflix, but I haven't gotten around to it.  I'll probably do that over the next few days.  I did watch the original Poltergeist movie from 1982, and I'm still wondering why they even attempted to remake that movie.  The original movie is perfect.

Also the new Chelsea Wolfe video is awesome!  I can't wait until her new album drops in august.  I'm adding to the many new album releases I'm looking forward to this year.  This song has a very industrial, sort of drone, doom feel.

I've been really busy this week since I've had to do most of the chores around the house, but I think I'm getting used to it. My mom has been doing a lot better since her falling incident. Today I took my car to the tire shop to get my tires rotated, and to the local grocery store to pick up a few things.

I wish I could say my dad was helping, but when I asked him if he could wash a the dishes over the weekend I realized that he almost forgot and didn't wash them until 1am. Now he did do the dishes, but he didn't clean off anything so that really annoyed me. I figured it would be best if I did it. My mom's doctor's office called her today to schedule her an appointment for Monday, and she called my dad and told him to take her saying "Well Ashley has been doing everything, so you can take me to the doctor." I was very grateful that she acknowledged how much I've been doing since her accident. My dad seemed somewhat angry when it happened, even though he said he wasn't. I think he felt bad because he wasn't there when it happened, and I ended up having to do everything. Either way things have been moving along.

I found out they actually renewed Sleepy Hollow for another season. I was worried that they weren't going to since the plot took a nosedive around season 2, but they did. Season 2 did start to improve around the last 5 episodes or so I would say. Hopefully with the new season they can fix a lot of the issues many people had with Season 2. I'm looking forward to it.

This week was really tiring.  I didn't get much sleep for the past 2 days so my sleep schedule is really off.  I now have the sleep schedule of a vampire...lol.  I plan on getting it back to normal within the next few days.  Like today I got off work early, and after I got settled, and ate lunch, I crashed and didn't wake up until around 7pm.  So needless to say I will be up all night tonight, but that's fine.  I can always catch up on my reading. :)

My mom wants to go to the movies this week to see "No Good Deeds", and I'm interested in the plot so I'll probably go see it with her.  I really like Idris Elba as an actor, and he always nails his roles so I'm excited to see him in this movie.

Speaking of watching movies I managed to watch the first episode of the new Ghost In The Shell: Arise show, and It's really interesting.  I'm not sure when these actual events on the show take place, but apparently she's younger so I'm assuming it's an alternate universe from the original GITS entirely.  It's really good from what I've seen so far.  The animation for the fight scenes are excellent.

As for music I've been listening to a lot of heavier genres of music like: Atmospheric Black Metal, Doom Metal, and various other genres that might be a bit weird to my lj friends...lol.  The last K-pop release I listened to was Park Jungmin's "Summer Break", and I enjoyed it.  I haven't really listened to any other new K-pop besides his mini, and the new BTS album.  I don't really have much enthusiasm for K-pop as much as I used to in the past.  I feel myself slowly drifting away from it.  I do think I'll always like some of the music, but I don't consider myself apart of the fandom anymore.  I think all the drama this year just made me want to reconsider why I was even apart of the fandom in the first place.

Due to my love of K-pop weining a bit, I've been re-listening to some older artists I used to listen to in the past.  Some of the main one's are: Dir en grey, Miyavi, Atreyu, The Gazette,  Mucc, and Asian Kung Fu Generation.  A few other artists I've been listening to are: Katatonia, Sleep White Winter, Contre Jour, This Ascension, Coldworld, Altar of Plagues, Autumn's Grey Solace, Boris, Delain, and Paradise Lost to name a few.  I want to post some pics of my record collection so far, and some new music I've recently purchased so I think I'll do that in the next post.

I want to mention that despite how I used to feel about Dir en grey in the past I think they're one of those bands that I will always respect because of what they did for the Visual Kei scene.  It would be foolish not admit their influence on today's current bands in the scene.  Also they're music was a huge influence on me artistically, as well as just musically.  I think seeing them live back in 2006-2008 helped solidify why I enjoyed their music so much.  They've really grown as a band despite me not liking everything they've done currently.  I think getting into more dark alternative music helped me appreciate their music a bit more than I did in the past.  They're one of those bands that I will always enjoy.  I just wanted to post that because they're coming out with a new album in December, and I will probably buy it xD!  I've bought all their albums up to this point anyway.

Let's see I'll use a few bullets to post some quick updates on what's been going on with me lately.

  • An old friend contacted me and it sort of surprised me because I haven't heard from him in a while.  It will be nice catching up with him, and seeing what he's been up to these days.
  • I've been listening to lots of extreme metal lately, and I'm not sure why.  I pity the fools in middle school I used to deal with who used to give me shit because the bands I listened to weren't "heavy enough", because that's defiantly not the problem now.  Somehow really extreme metal actually calms me down, and doesn't make me angry at all.  I can relate a lot to the lyrical content I think.  I also listen to lots of extremely mellow genres like post-rock, dream-pop, neo-classical, downtempo, and ambient music from time to time so I figure I have a nice balance overall.
  • I finally ordered "Unknown Pleasures" by Joy Division on 180 gram vinyl yesterday.  My friend was supposed to buy it for me for my b-day but she either forgot, or just didn't do it.  I ended up just getting myself, and I'm sure she'll be sort of annoyed but honestly idk.  I need to hear this album on vinyl.
  • I had an amusing convo with a  coworker about names, and if they were able to find their names on coke bottles.  Mine is really easy to find since it's such a common name, but you'd be surprised what names you find I guess.  I was also surprised that a coworker came to my defense today.  That felt really nice. :)

  • Reading about the whole Palestine/Israel conflict makes me really sad.  It just seems like the situation is really terrible at this point.  Also what happened in the Ukraine with the other Malaysian Air flight is just fucking terrible.  Why must people be so intolerant of each other?  Ugh...
  • I realized my little sound system I have my turntable hooked up to can play my iPod as well.  This is awesome because all I have to do is plug it in, and it plays through my awesome speakers.  I'm sure my parents aren't happy about that though...lol.
  • Studio Ghibli has decided to stop making animated films.  I actually heard them mention this a while back but it seems like they're following through with it.  It is very sad indeed, because I loved a lot of their films. ;___;
  • I like the song, but the video for this song is really disturbing.  A lot of the explanations I heard trying to explain the plot seem pretty accurate for the most part.  The abusive/stalker boyfriend concepts these days in K-pop are really annoying though.  I will say those VIXX boys are always doing creepy concepts...lol.

illusion_is_mine: (Berserk: Guts & Casca)

Last week was actually peaceful, and not too bad for a change.  I finally got the chance to check out Kim Hyun Joong’s new drama “Inspiring Age”, and I really enjoyed the first 2 episodes a lot!  The guy playing the younger Shin Jung Tae really does look just like Hyun Joong, down to his pissed off expression when he’s fighting.  They really outdid themselves by picking him for the role because he fits it perfectly.  I’m really looking forward to this week’s episode(s).

Speaking of shows I just watched the season finale for Sleepy Hollow and Oh My God!  I was not expecting it to end like that!  And I have to wait until the fall before it resumes the new season.  I don’t know what I’ll do with my Mondays now…lol.

I was browsing Netflix the other day and decided to watch the anime “Attack On Titan”, and boy do I regret it.  To say it was disturbing is putting it lightly.  I couldn't make it through episode 2 due to people being eaten by giant ‘Titans’ and what not.  The plot was a little too disturbing even for me, and I can usually take disturbing things.

I bought these jeans that have one leg red, and the other black and I wore them to work the other day.  Needless to say I got a lot of attention.  One guy literally did a 360 as he watched me walk past him…lol.  Despite how I dress sometimes I’m still not used to a lot of attention.  I think it’s safe to say that I don’t like attention.  On a side note I will say that whatever I do though I do it for myself, and not for anyone else.  I dress the way I do because it makes me happy.  I've decided that it’s ridiculous to depend on others for my happiness.  In fact I’ve decided that I will not depend on others for my happiness.  I need to think about making myself happy.  I can afford to be selfish at this point in my life.

As for music I’ve been trying to get into some newer hardcore bands.  Anyone that knows me personally knows that when I was a teenager up until my early twenties I used to listen to a ton of hardcore music.  You could say that’s how I got into post-punk music actually since hardcore is a form of punk.  These days I do still prefer post-punk to hardcore due to my love for rumbling bass-lines, and apathetic singing styles as opposed to screaming, and fast driven songs that hardcore brings to the table.  The bands I've been listening to are: Oceana, La Dispute, Balance And Composure, Touche Amore, Thrice, Embrace, Crossfaith, and Defeater.  As for some other bands/artists that aren't necessarily hardcore I’ve been listening to I’ve been listening to Within Temptation (their new album is awesome!!!), Swans, Warpaint, Christian Death, Coil, Husker Du, SuiseiNoboAz, Galileo Galilei, Pity Sex, and Little Nemo to name a few.

About

I'm a 32 year old woman. I'm an artist, and I'm into the Gothic subculture. Things that I enjoy include but are not limited to 80's Music, Reading, Drawing, Animation, Playing bass guitar, Gothic rock, indie music, horror films, anime, comics, video games, and sci-fi novels.
